Church history

On a Sunday in January of 1851 several Christians met to establish a new church in Beverly, NJ. Their leaders were John Fenimore (whose namesakes still reside in our neighborhood towns), Asa Nichols and Miller Bancroft. The new church was helped and blessed by surrounding Baptist churches on February 10, 1851. They established the articles of faith that are still applied today.

The first sermon was preached by J. Lansing Borrows of Philadelphia. Therefore recognizing the start of a church, members were numbered at 28. The first pastor was Brother Widowmer. Sister Matilda Wilson was the first woman to be a member of the governing body. You will find their names on the spectacular stained glass windows in our sanctuary.

There are eleven (11) beautiful stained glass windows donated by prominent families from the area. We have had continuous service here ever since the founding.
